The Dark Web Murders by Brian O'Hare is indeed the story of a web, deep and woven by a twisted and betrayed mind that was willing to go through any length to get revenge. Have you ever felt so good about something you did, that you just had to share it with an audience? Well, this was the case of a young man, who carried out a series of carefully thought out murders and decided to share his experience with an online audience through his untraceable blog.
With a murderer at large, the Chief Inspector, Detective Jim Sheehan, and his investigative team were saddled with the responsibility of uncovering the mystery surrounding the death of a prominent judge, other victims as well as finding out who the killer was.
Weeks into the investigation, Detective Stewart, Detective Sheehan's partner, stumbled on a heavily protected website called 'the dark web', where all manners of crazy people, from sexual perverts to killers, were allowed to vent about their lifestyle. This site was the home of a blog owned by Nemein as he called himself, where he bragged about each of the murder he committed, giving a step by step account of how he murdered his victims.
I thoroughly enjoyed the suspenseful aspect of this book because they made me look forward to reading more. I also liked how the author, Brian O'Hare, made this book some sort of daily entry, almost like a diary, which in turn carried me along in the investigative journey of the detectives.
The author was also able to include the narration of the killer in this book, without giving away who exactly the culprit was. This kept me as the reader, interested and curious to the end, which I liked about reading this book.
Apart from the profane words thrown about here and there in this book, I still appreciate the author for the fantastic job done because the profane words did not take away from my exciting reading experience.
I am rating this book a four out of four stars because I believe very much that it is a good read and I think other readers would enjoy it too. There is no doubt that this book was explicitly edited because I hardly noticed any error as I read.
If you are looking to read an interesting crime story, then this book is definitely for you. But, I must warn you ahead that there are graphic scenes described in this book and profane words used, which is why I would not recommend this book to under-aged readers.
