Official Review: Collection Of Short Stories

3 out of 4 stars

Collection Of Short Stories by Larry Steinman consists of nine short stories. The first short story is about the murder of a hot-tempered businessman. As he has a lot of enemies because of his attitude, it is very hard for the detectives to find the murderer. A story is about a dead man's fortune. He leaves a great fortune to his relatives, but they must find it to get their share. The last story is set against the backdrop of WW2. A private detective, who knows nothing about spying, is followed by a bunch of spies for some unknown reason. He tries to find the truth and eventually finds something hazardous enough to ensure his death.
The author has set all the short stories in the mid 20th century except one, which is set in 1874. Almost every story starts with a murder. The detectives try to find the murderer and accidentally find something else that surprises them.
I enjoyed almost every story. All these stories had a twist at the end, which is the essence of a good mystery. The thing I loved most about this book was that the author didn't try to create fake suspense. There were no absurd details, and everything happened very smoothly and naturally. My favourite story was "Too Many Spies". It was a gripping story with a satisfying ending. I liked this story for its grand setting that included many countries and their people. It was very interesting to read the story of an average detective who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The story named "The Way West" was a bit boring. It was about the adventures of a young man who travelled from the East Coast to California. It was very off-putting because it wasn't an adventure story I was expecting to read in a mystery book.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I reduce one star because it has a lot of errors and needs another round of editing. These errors are serious enough to interrupt the flow of the story, and a reader has to reread some of the pages for clarity. Otherwise, it is a fascinating read, and that's why I am not giving this book 2 stars.
Readers who like mystery novels would find this book amusing. It is also suitable for young readers as there is no graphic violence or any kind of profanity.

Hope you would like it. Each story has different length, some are very short like 4 to 7 pages, and some are of average length that is approximately 25 pages, and few are long. I am not sure about the length cause there were no page numbers. There were only location number.
Thanks a lot for commenting
