I have All Good Things to say about Rosemary Reeve’s thrilling novel. This is a great read if you like mystery and suspense genres.
The story revolves around Jack Hart, a struggling young attorney whose life is mired in work and routine until one day when his co-worker and friend Harmony Piper doesn’t show up for work. Jack’s gut tells him something is wrong and his intuition leads him to contact the police. At first, they dismiss his concerns, but additional shocking events and Harmony’s continued absence make them take note and request Jack’s help. To Jack’s surprise and delight, his childhood friend Mark Oden is one of the police officers working to understand what’s happening at the law firm of Piper Whatcom where Jack and Harmony work.
As Jack and the police uncover more information, Jack finds himself at the center of some very unwanted attention. But, with Harmony’s life at stake, Jack must uncover the truth about her personal and professional activities and hopefully save Harmony and himself.
What I liked most about Rosemary Reeve’s All Good Things was that it was a fast-paced read and very exciting. The author is very descriptive, making you alternately chuckle and be terrified, depending on the scene, with her choice of words. Almost every chapter ended with a cliffhanger and I just wanted to keep reading to see what would happen next. I also really liked that the web of clues kept me guessing until the end of the book. I was not sure, until the last few pages, who or what was really behind Harmony’s disappearance and the web of problems at the law firm. It was exciting to put all the pieces together with Jack at the end of the story. I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars for excitement and intensity. I really didn’t want to put it down.
What I disliked most about the book, if you want to call it a “dislike”, is that there were maybe a few too many back stories or side plots. While I do think good character development should include back story so we understand motivation and decisions, as does the information about Jack’s dark past, a few times I felt like there were just too many minor characters and back stories to keep up with. But that’s my only criticism.
Overall, I highly recommend this book. It was a fun and exciting read. I noticed that this is the first book of a series and I’m really looking forward to reading the others and seeing where Jack’s adventures take him.
