Told in third person perspective, B-Side by Janis Jones is a crime/thriller novel following Mara Bays, an LAPD detective, as she works to find the perpetrator that committed a hate crime against Cassandra Terranova. Cassandra, also known as Cassey, is a good-looking young lesbian that is beaten by an unknown man in her home while waiting for her partner to come home. Mara and her partner Derek work on finding the perpetrator while the author unpacks the complexities in Mara's life along the way.

This book is filled with love triangles, suspense, plot twists, and a little drama. This novel was a very interesting read and is definitely a book I would recommend to friends. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

This novel keeps readers on their toes with its plot twists and suspense. Foreshadowing throughout the text kept me interested. In addition, the author did a wonderful job in developing the characters. There is a variety of characters provided in the novel and each character was well developed and provided a piece to the story. I also enjoyed the way dialogue was presented in the text. It sounded smooth and was easy to follow.

I liked how the chapters were short and concise. This kept me from getting bored or lost in too much information. Plus, each chapter was creatively titled. The chapter titles throughout the book kept me curious about what was going to happen next. In addition, there were no spelling or grammar mistakes in this book. However, there was a lot of foul language and intimate moments in this novel. So, the appropriate audience for this read would probably be adults.

I didn't find anything not to like about this read. So that is why I decided to give it a 4 instead of a 3. I liked how this novel was written and will be looking for more books by Janis Jones.
