The second book from Belle Ami’s Out of Time Thriller series is here. The Girl Who Loved Caravaggio is another enthralling tale of love and redemption throughout the challenges of time. This sequel follows the story of our love birds, Angela Renatus, an art historian with psychic ability, and Alex Caine, a former SEAL now turned detective.

After an arduous adventure to retrieve a long-lost painting by Da Vinci and finding out they are bound to be soul mates in two lifetimes, they are about to take the next step for their relationship. They decide to pay a visit to their parents and formally announce their engagement. However, when they feel like everything is already at peace and they are ready to settle down, visions from the past again start to flood them; this time, from another era and from someone with a more tragic and darker tale – Caravaggio and her muse, Fillide.

Angela starts having dreams again and so is Alex. They knew these visions have something to do with their next mission – to find The Nativity, a Caravaggio painting which was stolen and has been missing for over fifty years. But wait, there is more. There are also secrets in their present lives that are waiting to come out of the box as well. Can the two solve the mystery of another long-lost painting and redeem one of the most sought after painter in history? Will their love for each other stand another test of time - mentally and physically? Can their love indeed survive all odds? It is time to find out in this book.

If you love the first installment of these series entitled, The Girl Who Knew Da Vinci, you are in for a treat in this new book. This is another appealing plot to follow after the exciting adventures from the prequel though a tad bit lighter with the blast-from-the-past thingy. We experience the same heart-stopping moments, get to enjoy another tour of the art world, and another blissful taste of history.

It is a commendable job for the author to be able to write stories that can stand on its own despite being part of a series. It is not really necessary for readers to hastily read the first book to jump along with the events in the second book. I like how detailed and well-researched the story is, which goes to show that our dear author did another great job. More often than not, the facts in stories like this makes it more interesting and believable for readers although we know this is a fiction one.

I can say this is one impeccable written book, with some minor errors found that can be easily corrected. These are typographical errors such as missing letter in the name of the ‘Cathedral of Sant John’, the mistaken use of ‘an’ instead of ‘a’, and the lack of hyphen for the word ‘have nots’. Another round of proofreading and it is absolutely perfect.

The presence of non graphic erotic and sexual scenes may cause awkwardness to some, hence, caution is to be heed for readers who are conservative and have a difficult time dealing with such issues. This also isn’t suitable for minor audiences due to the intense drama and use of provocative language.

Belle Ami never fails to amaze me with her talent in weaving a brilliant story, and I believe The Girl Who Loved Caravaggio deserves a rating of 4 out of 4 star just like its predecessor. Despite the minor flaws found which are not enough to pull the rating down, the superb and amazing writing skill is highly-acclaimed. I very much recommend this thrilling book to lovers of romance, mysteries and detective stories. Also, those who are into art and history will appreciate how much thought was put into writing this book. Definitely looking forward to reading the next one.

Enjoyed reading your review. I recently read and reviewed this book too! Having really enjoyed the first book in the series, this one was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I loved the background and the story of the missing painting, but felt that there was less mystery and less thrill in this book. Also I'm not sure how I feel about Alex starting to have visions as well!
