Review by Dilli -- The Judge by Ian R B Morris
The Judge by Ian R. B. Morris takes place in London in the 1990s. The protagonist is a solicitor named Peter Ritchie. One day he is called to identify a former client named Bobby Black who worked as a male prostitute. His death was assumed to be an accident of a sexual act. However, it turns out it was a vicious murder, tried to be covered up by the killer. Peter Ritchie plays a big role in this complicated investigation due to his connection to Bobby. During his attempt to find out the truth about the murder his girlfriend Naomi gets kidnapped to stop Peter’s effort to solve the case. He has to find the killer and save his girlfriend before it is too late.
The Judge is an interesting and exciting book. It is easy to read due to having a fast pace and dialogues between the characters. In addition to that this book has multiple climatic moments which keep the story entertaining and makes reader invested in the storyline.
Another way that keeps the reader invested is the multiple characters who have their own chapters and stories. Ian R. B. Morris gives the background story to important characters. The audience finds out more about their life, family and important events which shaped them to the person they are in the story. Due to knowing important detail about their past the reader gets to know these characters more personally and know their motives behind their actions.
I personally enjoyed reading this book and would give it four out of four stars. It is written very well and is easy to read. In addition, it contains a variety of topics like murder, corruption, friendship, romance and much more. The Judge has something for every adult. Due to its content it does not appeal to children or teenagers.
One aspect that is most intriguing to me is the incorporation of the LGBTQ+ community. This topic is important in our society and by making it relevant to the storyline, it brings more awareness to the readers. It shows the potentially negative impact on people for being a part of this community. Even though this is a fictional book the representation of this topic is very accurate and well explained.
The Judge is perfect for people who like to read crime fiction. It contains informational subjects, for instance law, but can also be funny at times due to sarcastic comments of some characters. As a result of having all these different characters with various professions, age, gender it makes the story more captivating and entertaining.
