The author has cleverly paced the book in such a way that from the word go, the reader is completely hooked on to the strange events that follow the discovery of an old manuscript, that holds the key to a secret so great that it boggles the mind. From the introduction to halfway through the book, one is mesmerized completely by the marvelous details that the writer provides, creating a world so fantastic, that one can only marvel at his creativity.
Packed with full action adventures that the main characters face, the twists and turns that shape the lives of seemingly ordinary people, the storyline slowly unveils the mystery surrounding the 'Holy Grail', 'The Arc of the Covenant', and lastly, but most importantly, the plans and preparations for 'the return' of the great Messaiah and the one hope of humanity to be led into glory - Jesus Christ!
A particularly amazing part of the story, is how the writer has connected the world of crime in the real world, with the 'dark forces' that seek to stop 'the return' from happening. The author gives a very gripping and interesting account of how money changes hands, and organizations are managed to protect the 'awaited one', or to stop his return.
The characters travel a lot as the story progresses and each new place that is added to the plot is described interestingly, showing the amount of research the writer must have done to write the story. The connection of the story to the prophesies that have been made about 'the return', give more plausibility to the concept and add to the mystery that the writer has created for the reader.
The only thing that seems lacking in the story is the absence of a lot of dialogues. The writer has written it more like a narration. Still, even though quoted material is few and far in between, the fast-paced conclusion, packed with a seriously good and detailed action sequence, sends one's mind reeling at the sheer impact of the words.
Being classified as the first of a series of books on the same topic, 'The Return' no doubt does full justice to it's name and leaves the reader wondering about the secrets that the sequel may unveil.
My rating of the book is 4 out of 4 stars for a story based on well-known prophesies and researched material on the subject. All in all, it's a very interesting read!
