Detective Mara Bays has the perfect anniversary surprise planned for her beloved Cassandra “Casey” Terranova. Her anniversary gifts lay in the passenger seat of her old black pickup. Casey, at home, having prepared a nice dinner for two. Unknown to them, someone else has a much sinister plan in store for their evening.

As Mara approaches her home after leaving work, she is met with a slew of emergency crew and police officers. Fearing the worst, she learns Casey has been the victim of a hate crime, but has survived the attack.

Janis Jones and Jason Rohan have created the perfect combination of suspense, drama and romance that meld beautifully into a world that fully immerses you. I felt connected with each character and grew to love Mara and Casey as if they are my closest friends. There are moments of sensuality between Mara and Casey but it's not gratuitous in any way. It's done tastefully and impresses upon you the connection they share.

To say I like this book would be an understatement. B-Side by Janis Jones and Jason Rohan is a gripping and fearless story that kept me reading for hours. I couldn't put this book down until I found out who did, why they did it and where they were hiding. There's always something exciting waiting for you on the next page.

I am proud to give this book a 4 out of 4 stars. I love the way the authors know exactly how to keep you hooked. It's easy to understand but still written with intelligence. The characters are interesting and relatable. Even the supporting characters bring depth and dynamic to the main characters. The story developed quickly but not so quick as to lose any details. It's edited extremely well and I found no errors in spelling or grammar. The only thing I dislike is that the book isn't longer.

I would recommend this book to a more mature audience. There are some brief but graphic scenes of violence and strong language. There are also some lewd comments made about the victim but it's done by a specific character to show who he is. I would also recommend this selection to the LGBT+ community. This story has roots in real life that are relatable and I think this book could be valuable to those looking for their voice in others. Congratulations Janis Jones and Jason Rohan on an amazing book!
