It’s a dog-eat-dog world out there on the streets. Some people live their entire lives living in the ignorance of that philosophy while others can’t help but face it head on. Trina is a young pre-teen living with her deaf and mute mother who can’t stand the sight of her. Her yearning for love blindly sends her into the arms of her mother’s current boyfriend, Marcos, who earns his living off of little girls like Trina. One day all that changes for Trina when she meets Mistro who is a member of the Vice Lord Mob. She decides to leave her past behind her and eagerly follows Mistro into a completely different world of predators. When the unimaginable happens, Trina is left to fend for herself in this dog-eat-dog world

I give this book, Cry baby cry…or not 4 out of 4 stars. Right from the start, I found myself hooked into this engrossing story line. I loved the pace of the book and how each character was well rounded out. The author, DeWandus Johnson did an amazing job of giving each character their own unique voice and backstory. I especially love how the author managed to show how each character was shaped by events that were beyond their control. I felt that, that added a more realistic twist to it.

Moreover, I felt that the author maintained the flow of the novel really well. I also felt that the book was well thought out, and offers an inside look into the lives of individuals who are both thriving and suffering on the street. Overall, I applaud the author for being able to capture the essence of the lives of gang members in such a riveting fashion.

I just could not stop myself from devouring this book, I was held completely captive from start to finish. The deaths of beloved characters shocked and saddened me, and had me rooting for Trina right through out. This book really highlighted the dangers of living on the streets and emphasized on the fact that not everyone is who they say they are. Many are looking to see what they can gain from you or what advantage you can give them.

There were a few, extremely minor errors in the ways of punctuation or slight spelling errors but they were so minuscule that it was quite easy to overlook. There are a lot of explicit sexual scenes, sexual scenes of a predatory nature and torture scenes that I too found a little gory and explicit so I definitely wouldn’t recommend this to younger audiences and people who are uncomfortable with scenes of that nature. Despite this, I really enjoyed it.
