Review by Avid-One -- E M P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer
Kelly McBride Turbulo and Sgt Tom Turbulo, a Carson City Police Office, are on their honeymoon on a resort island in Honduras. While Tom is on a dive boat Kelly decides to take an excursion bus trip and go shopping. She runs into a small gift shop called the Pigsty and goes in looking for souvenirs for her family. Instead, she runs into a high-tech secret lab, is almost caught, escapes and calls her brother Congressman McBride but hangs up before she can tell him everything.
Congressman McBride locates where she is from her call and remembers she is on her honeymoon, leaves her a message and then calls a friend in the CIA to ask about Honduras. Although he can’t tell him much, he does tell him that as long as she stays in the resort area she should be fine. The Congressman then contacts Tom on the dive boat and lets him know about the call from his wife. Tom reaches his wife who acts like everything is ok not knowing who might be looking for her or listening. Mike catches on and goes along with the call until he can get back to the resort.
At this point, there are a plethora of people scrambling to figure out what is going on in Honduras after Kelly called her brother and the intrigue grows. You have Congressman Mike McBrides secretary, bodyguard and private investigator, Cynthia, checking on it and also sends a team to Honduras to watch the newlyweds and look around. Dr. Jo Rench, CIA Assistant Director contacts his agent, Steve Spalding, in Honduras to investigate what happened.
Unknown to any of them, a team of terrorists sent by the DL (Dear Leader) in North Korea has landed on the island and are proceeding with their order to destroy the U.S.
This is an action-packed adventure with some romance that also includes Colonel Sky Easterman, Cynthias' husband and commander of the New U.S. Space Force becoming part of the investigation and in direct contact with Cynthia, the President, his team and the CIA.
The characters are quick-witted and amusing, at times, grabbing your attention and keeping it until the end while trying to save the country. It was a great, entertaining book and so nice not to have crude language and steamy sex scenes that last for chapters. I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars and recommend it for anyone wanting a quick, enjoyable read. If you prefer very in-depth detail then you probably wouldn't enjoy this book. I really enjoyed the characters (particularly the inclusion of the Space Force) and was glad to see there are several series with these characters and look forward to reading them.
