The Wilson County Murders, by Suzanne Philopian, is an erotic revenge story in the lives of Wayne, Vicky, Brooke and Darin Carson. Wayne Carson is promoted to manager of the lumber yard over Fred Buck. Fred decides he will exact revenge on Wayne not only for the promotion, but also for stealing his sweetheart, Vicky, and marrying her. Fred and Vicky engage in an affair. In the meantime, Brooke Carson starts an affair with her best friend’s father, despite being underage. Secrets begin to come out and consequences are felt throughout the family. How will Wayne deal with everything going on?

This book had some issues with formatting and editing, which made it a little distracting for me to read. The language itself was often vulgar. There is violence and violent murder in the novel as well as rape. For those who are sensitive to those topics, this may not be the book to read. This book is also very erotic in nature and has extremely explicit language. It is not flowery or expressed in romantic terms.

The thing I liked most about this book was that the author tried to weave together a rather raunchy tale that was really about revenge. Characters who met an untimely end were all due to revenge, and they were all dispatched in different ways. I found myself really rooting for one character’s plot to succeed while I wanted the other one to get caught. It really brought up some questions of morality: are there some forms of vengeance that we agree with even if murder is morally wrong?

The thing I liked least about this book was the underage erotic scenes. I have no issues with erotic scenes in general, but I did take issue with the underage ones. I didn’t feel that there was any warning that there would be consensual underage scenes. I think that a warning would serve readers well since the scenes certainly left me with a bit of that ick feeling. It was helpful, for example, to know that there would be a non-consensual scene.

Another problem I had with this novel was with the formatting of it. The author would often separate sentences in the middle into separate paragraphs, which made reading a little bit tricky for me. I was expecting the rest of a sentence, only for it to be in the next paragraph. It really threw me off.

Overall, there were things I liked about this book, but plenty I didn’t. I wouldn’t read it again. I think erotica readers might enjoy it as a quick read, but I don’t think most readers will find this as their cup of tea. I give it 2 out of 4 stars.

There is an over reaching plot that’s interesting. It is also a very erotic novel. I have to be honest and say I wasn’t expecting it!

Not that I minded it other than the underage scenes. Those I was not a fan of.

It was definitely erotica. There were body parts everywhere.

In general I try not to read underage sex scenes (if I can skip them, I will), mostly because in my mind those are kids, but I think in this case the ick factor is definitely there since it's between a young woman and a man old enough to be here father. It's a definite no for that one.
