The Chamberland Maze Run by Justin Evans was an interesting look at the human mind. The story begins with Gary, a young man who takes part in many annual competitions to the disappointment of his wife Sherry. Gary finds an advertisement to compete in the sixth annual Chamberland Maze Run to find a hidden artifact. The artifact is hidden within the maze, and nobody knows what it looks like. The draw of such a competition is something Gary cannot deny, and he hopes he will prove himself to Sherry by completing such a feat. The contestants embark on their quest and quickly find that claustrophobia and curses are much more real than they could have ever imagined.

The Chamberland Maze Run is considered a short story, although it takes the reader on a roller coaster of a story. The amount of action that is packed into such a small book is astounding, and I never experienced a dull moment the whole time I was reading the book. Twists and turns were on every page which kept me as a reader guessing as I experienced the maze along with Gary and the other contestants.

I most liked the plot and the inclusion of different psychiatric pressures the book offered. The tricks the mind can play on people under stress are widely unknown and can change a person into someone they do not even recognize. Watching the mental stress the contestants experienced was fascinating and added another layer of depth to the storyline.

The potential of this story was exciting to read and think about. I most disliked the amount of language utilized throughout the book. I do not feel the need to include a lot of foul language throughout a book. The story is not negatively affected by the amount of language; however, I feel the large volume of language was not needed to maintain the desired impact.

This book read like a work in progress due to several grammar and typo errors within its pages. I would rate this book 2 out of 4 stars because of the errors it contained. I enjoyed the plot and the thought process behind the story and would rate it higher after the errors were corrected. The violence in this book is descriptive and could be disturbing to younger audiences. I would recommend this book to adults because of the amount of language and violence the story contains. I think adults would also appreciate the mental insight the book utilizes with its characters. The plot behind The Chamberland Maze Run is one I have never experienced, and I enjoyed reading such a unique book.
