"Duplicity" by Fin Gray is a thrilling, fast-paced, on the edge-of-your-seat work of fiction. A tragic event that takes place on a hot and dusty afternoon changes one small boy's perspective on life, only more so after his mother passes away in the years following. Coupled with his father's shady business deals, it plunges the family into turmoil from which it seems that they can never recover.

This book touches on a lot of different themes such as terrorism, sexuality, alcoholism, drug addiction, grief, and blame, just to name a few. It cleanly transitions back and forth between the two main characters - Tom McIntyre, the father, and Daniel McIntyre, the son. Seeing things from each of their perspectives allows you to understand what they are each going through.

What I liked most about this book was the descriptive writing, from inside each of the character's minds. It allowed you to see what they were feeling, even if it didn't necessarily exactly reflect reality. Being able to feel what the character is feeling is essential to a good book.

What I disliked most about this book is that the characters of the mother and the sister/daughter, were not concentrated on more. While we had the viewpoint of the father and son/brother consistent throughout the novel, I was never sure what the other two were experiencing or thinking, and how they felt.

I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars. It kept me guessing, and kept me glued to the pages until the very end. Great read!
