The Dark Web Murders is a mystery book by Brian O’Hare. The book opens with the story of Kevin Lane, a young boy who gets arrested for manslaughter. On his first night at the prison, he gets killed by two prisoners when they accidentally push him, which causes his head to smash against the shower wall. Kevin was immediately pronounced dead. Six years later, on the 13th of August, Judge Neeson gets murdered at his party. Following this, 3 more other individuals get murdered as well.

Detective Chief Inspector Sheehan gets assigned to this case. Soon, Inspector Sheehan discovers that the killer has been writing their murders up in detail on a blog that they created on the Dark Web. Using this blog and a team of detectives, Inspector Sheehan is determined that the killer will be found. Will Inspector Sheehan solve the case before the killer strikes their fifth victim?

The book contains a lot of characters and police terms which could be hard to follow, so the author has created a glossary and a character list at the start of the book, it contains the names of the characters with a short description of whom they are. The glossary contains the Northern Ireland police terms and acronyms used in the book. Despite the book having police terms, I didn’t find the book hard to understand. The author’s writing style made the book easy to follow along and understand. Furthermore, the author manages to hold the reader’s interest throughout the whole book; it has many intense scenes that grab your attention. Also, the author leaves clues throughout the book which have you guessing who the murderer could be. The killer having a blog is a unique idea by the author; it gives the reader a chance to see what’s going on inside the killer’s head.

The idea of the story is great, and the author executed it very well. So, because of this reason, there isn’t anything that I disliked. However, I will mention that the first half of the book is very slow, so those who don’t like a slow-paced book may lose interest. In addition to that, I did feel that some parts of the book were unnecessary, and it was just filling up pages, for example, when the author is describing in detail all the interrogations that were carried out by the detectives.

Overall, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was a great mystery book, and it got me hooked in from the first page. Throughout the whole book, I only came across one mistake, so the book is professionally edited. The book contains violent and sexual scenes, which could be triggering to some readers, so I would not suggest it to a young audience. However, if you are into criminal law and the police force, then this book could be useful in showing you what life is like as a detective.

My goodness... is that a grisly string of murders or what?! But I honestly love a good crime/mystery tale with a bit of disturbing fluff, so I appreciate your honest impressions of this one. Thanks for the helpful review!

Now that's new to me - a killer who creates a blog, writing about his crime. Sounds a bit far-fetched too as it could be easily tracked (?) I think I'll skip this one. Thanks for sharing this one with us! I enjoyed reading your review though.

Thanks for the warning about the violent and sexual scenes. I'm interested in seeing how Kevin is related to the rest of the plot! Great review!

The killer having a blog isn't as simple as it sounds (the author does a good job of explaining this). Hope you reconsider as it is a good read; unless graphic descriptions aren't your cup of tea.
