"The Girl in Red Pajamas"is the third book in Chris Birdy's trilogy, the Pajama trilogy. It is a mystery, action book that revolves around two antagonising families, the Carpenters and the Grudders. The havoc begins after the death of a lesbian, Dolores, who is killed by her incapable, dependent, religious fanatic son-in-law, Joseph. However, Dolores family shifts the blame to Ann's family, the lesbians partner. What follows are judicial and extra-judicial pursuits for justice. Bogie, Ann's brother, is sure that her sister is not guilty of the murder, and takes the responsibility of pursuing justice for the dead friend and ex partner.

The author, Chris Birdy has succeeded in creating a not only intriguing, but also fascinating thriller, mystery and action book. What begins as a simple murder in a Boston hotel turns into an endless, mind blowing text, leaving the reader scrolling down the story. The suspense in the text keeps the reader eager to know what happens next.

The plot of the text is well crafted. Despite the fact that the text is the third book in a trilogy, the great flow of events and the effortless marriage between place and event enables the text to be read as a stand alone. Every chapter of the text is a story that is accompanied by a reference of the place of the happening. This is the aspect of the text that I loved most.

I like how characters in this text are developed. As I read, I particularly fell in love with Ann's granddaughter, who is also Bogie's daughter, Isabella, who is approaching five years when the story begins. Despite the fact that I deem it irrational to give a four year old the protagonist role the girl plays, her intelligence is intriguing. Her wits outdo other adult characters. To me, she is the character that gives the story more life and keeps the story unfolding. I also love how the writer has created Joseph, presenting him as a murder while at the same time pursuing religious wholeness. His killing of his mother-in-law makes him a hypocritical religious extremist.

The book is well edited, and I would be unfair to deny it a 4 out of 4 rating, and so this is what I give it. I love the text, and would recommend it to adults who love thrillers, action books and mysteries,or to an audience that love fantasies. It is a good read. However, I discourage the text to those who hate violence. The few murder scene could be traumatic. After reading The Girl in Red Pajamas, what I mostly want now is to read the other two books in the trilogy.
