Georganne is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered career as an interior designer in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is an uphill battle because there is nothing the southern elite steer further clear of than scandal, and the last job Georganne had, ended in a very public and mysterious death. Blair Huston was also involved in the Bridlewood scandal but retreated safely away to Paris. Both girls are haunted by dreams and feelings of ghosts attempting to contact them. In New Orleans, a shocking murder puts Georganne at her limit. In Paris, Blair catches a new lead calling her back home. With their dreams getting worse and the Yuletide celebration approaching, the final stage is set.

I absolutely adored Minor Arcana (The Dark Emeralds Book 2) by Jerry Lambert. I cannot rave enough about it. It is perfectly placed in New Orleans, the city known for haunts, superstition, witches, romance and southern culture. There was just enough of each in this story for me. Lambert provides ample back story into this great mystery, and the characters’ lives, to expertly set the stage. The plot twists and turns from past to present and between each of the characters’ perspective creating an absolutely riveting tale. I have nothing negative to say about Minor Arcana. It was interesting, scary, sexy and expertly penned.

I chose this book not knowing it was part of a series and now have to go back and read the first because it was just that good. That being said, this book can be read on its own. I never felt lost when reading; there were no gaps in the story that I noticed from not having read the first.

This book is definitely for readers who love mystery but also do not shy away from a story that is a little dark. In true New Orleans fashion, this story is full of ghosts from the past and witchcraft. This story is also perfect for people who can appreciate the divide between tradition and progression and the constant battle between the sides. If this sounds like your cup of tea, I hope you also have time to read cover to cover, because you will not be able to put it down.

I am rating this book a 4 out of 4 stars. I was engulfed in the story and its many facets from beginning to end and I fully recommend others to experience it for themselves.
