First a warning: This book contains some extreme sexual themes (snuff, pedophilia, etc) and vulgarity. There are some graphic depictions of a few situations, mostly of the murders, but most of the sexual themes do not have graphic descriptions of the acts. There is also quite a bit of vulgar language, but it is not overly used. I would say it is within the boundaries of what would be expected due to the content. If you are easily triggered by any of these things I would NOT recommend this book.

The Dark Web Murders is well written and engaging as you follow Inspector Sheehan and his team through the investigation of several murders and a secret sex club that is making everything messy. Author Brian O’Hare, beautifully sprinkles obvious and not so obvious clues and some unforeseen twists as he takes you on a journey thought the mind of a psychopathic killer, and on the trail with the team of detectives determined to take him down.

The team professionally and expertly follow the clues of the intelligent yet arrogant murderer. Some of these clues lead the team to one the most depraved secret clubs known, one which allows some of the most vile acts to be committed for the right amount of money, including snuff films and medieval torture. This leads one of the team members, Stewart, to dive into the Dark Web where the team is further enlightened of the malicious killings. Stewart finds that the killer has been blogging about the killings in exquisite detail while eloquently arguing his concept of justice. As the team closes in on the murderer, there is one final victim he… or she must take care of before their plan is finished, but will the team figure out the clues in time.

I give the book a 4 out of 4 stars. It is well written and edited. I only noticed a couple of minor errors but not enough to interfere with the reading. The story flows well and keeps the reader engaged. If there was anything I disliked it was that the first third or so of the book was a bit of a slow burn and a few spots a bit long winded. This seemed to improve considerably as the story went on, and didn’t appear to be an issue after that.

For anybody outside of the UK, or even outside Northern Ireland, where the book takes place, please note that this book may use many different words, phrases, or names than what you are used to. I feel it did not distract from the story, in fact I found it made the story more interesting, but there were a few times I had to looked up, or learned, a new word.
