In his debut novel, Fraud at Sonic Ping, Orlando Stephenson takes his readers on an exhilarating journey across the world. The protagonist of the story, Daryl, is a heroic, brave, and thoughtful millionaire who cares about his family and friends. His partner, Rodger, is a rebel who is exceptionally superior in his technological skills. This is the first book in its series and it opens with a bang: Daryl’s friend, Madeline, is in trouble and she needs his help. The book takes you around the world in a thrilling adventure, while these characters try to fight the injustice of the world they’re living in.

At the beginning of the book, recently widowed, Madeline, asks her friend, Daryl, if he could assist her in the problems her husband caused before he died. Leaving his wife, Daryl rushes to Madeline's home and finds out that Madeline’s niece, Jennifer, had been abducted and that Brad had been a part of a risky business. Daryl finds out that Brad had allegedly stolen money from Jennifer’s abductors! What he doesn’t know is that the adventure he is about to undertake is one with twists and turns, one that will cause him to travel across the globe. At one point, Daryl and Roger have to save Madeline from her being sold at a slave auction. Soon they will be absorbed in the world of tech with corruption, abduction, computer fraud, and worst of all: murder.

What I disliked most about this book was how unrealistic the dialogue was at times. At the beginning of the book, I thought the dialogue between Madeline and Daryl was mechanical and seemed somewhat fake. However, throughout the book the dialogue did improve and for the most part the characters and the action are quite believable.

What I liked most about this book was how fast-paced and action-packed the story was. The plot was exciting and kept my heart racing at times. The adventures that the characters took in this book were interesting and took me around the world. Throughout the book I kept wondering what would happen next in the adventure and was utterly blown away by the imagination of Orlando Stephenson.

For anyone interested in reading Fraud at Sonic Ping, you should know that this book is, in my opinion, only appropriate for mature readers. Slavery, sexual attraction, gun violence, and drugs are all present in the book, but these topics are only used to drive the plot forward and for the most part, aren’t drawn out. Moreover, there are mildly erotic scenes and consistent use of profanity. That said, younger age groups (less than fourteen years) should steer clear of this book.

Overall, I enjoyed Fraud at Sonic Ping and thought it was an exceptionally well-edited and well-written book. I gave this book a 4 out of 4 stars. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the majority of this novel and it's a book that can get your heart racing. I can’t wait to see what else Orlando Stephenson has to offer and will be checking out the next two books in this series. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure-packed books with a touch of tech.
