Review by Florence Nalianya -- The Date Farm
Many countries in the world have experienced terror attacks. Such, have horrific and painful tales to tell. If terrorists were to have their dictionary, then the word 'mercy' would be an exemption. These terror gangs are excellent planners that strike unexpectedly in the least thought of places. Nevertheless, we thank God for law enforcers who are devoted to pursuing and bringing these criminals to book. The Date Farm by Jack Winnick is a fictional thriller of terror attacks.
A busy shopping mall in Beverly Hills is under attack. A youthful population enjoying a music concert is put under siege by terrorists. As tactical as they always are, the gang makes entrance carrying big bags to be mistaken for musicians. The gang smartly takes positions on all floors of the mall. They act swiftly and systematically. Gas grenades are rolled onto the floor. The entire place is gagged and blinded by fumes. There is no chance of escape. All but the terrorist panic. What follows is a deadly massacre. The intruders use automatic machines to unselectively spray bullets to the crowd. They are out to injure and kill anyone on their path. The youth die by bullets or shattering pieces of glass windows. The place is filled with screams. All police units in Beverly Hills are alerted and dispatched to the scene. Some of the attackers blow themselves up after accomplishing their mission.
Lara Edmond, an FBI agent, and her husband Uri Levin, an Israeli undercover Mossad agent are on Vacation in Ohio. They are recalled back to the American security headquarters to help solve the equation. In the process of unraveling the mystery, security network systems for the Department of Defence and Homeland are compromised. This is followed by an attack in Newyork federal reserve where a precious item is suspected to have been stolen. Lara and Uri are to risk their lives by pursuing the perpetrators and put an end to these egregious crimes. One is left to wonder, are these attacks related? Will Lara and Uri come out of this celebrating the fall of the enemy or will it be a dark end?
I loved so much about this book. The author managed to deliver it fast-paced just like it happens in real thriller movies. Tention in this book is to the extreme that I held my breath all through. The fact that the book is fourth in a series didn't hinder my understanding or enjoyment. It's a perfect stand-alone. Character and location descriptions are clear to detail. The entire suspense in the book kept me wanting more. The plot is perfect with a clear connection of events. Apart from some characters that had almost similar name initials making it a little bit cumbersome to follow, there wasn't anything more for me to dislike in this book. I applaud the author for a job well done.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed reading it to the end. I come across minor errors that didn't hinder my understanding of the author's work. This book was therefore professionally edited. I recommend this book to security enforcers who are always out dealing with criminals the likes of terrorists to read and get operational tips. I also recommend it to all lovers of fictional crime thrillers to read and enjoy.
