Official Review: The Weekend: Sexual Adventures with a Tw...
The Weekend: Sexual Adventures with a Twist by Eva Marie is a sex-filled romp through a weekend camping trip with a group of college students out in the woods. Mary had a nightmare of being in a red bra and underwear and being chased through the woods. It frightened her and left her stomach feeling uneasy. Xavier, Mary’s boyfriend, is logical and not in tune with Mary’s emotional well-being. They have a great sex life, but isn’t there more? Russ gambles with gangsters, is rich, lazy, a player, and lives his life in a carefree manner. His girlfriend Valentina uses sex for his money. They have a great sex life, but isn’t there more? Trjang is smart and works hard at his internship at an investment house. His girlfriend Ajita loves to look at herself in the mirrors he keeps around their house and has zero emotional stability. They have a great sex life, but isn’t there more? All six go camping together at Russ’s family cabin, but when it’s found to be burnt down, they decide to camp without shelter deeper into the woods. What fate awaits the six campers? Was Mary’s nightmare just a dream or is it a premonition?
This book was written in easy-to-understand language and was not difficult to read. There were only a couple of mistakes, so errors did not affect the reading. There is profanity, especially when it comes to the naming of body parts in slang terms. This story also has a lot of explicit scenes. I would put this novel in the erotic genre with how many sex scenes there are. There is a scene with a sexual assault in it and a scene with attempted assaults, so if these are sensitive subjects, it would be best to avoid this book.
The thing I liked best about this book was the unabashed way that the author wrote the explicit scenes. A lot of times, these scenes are written in very flowery language and it’s just not the same reading experience. Depending on the novel, it works, but sometimes it’s just downright fun to read something a little bit naughtier. This story was that-naughty. It was detailed and it wasn’t afraid to use slang terms that would make my mother blush.
The thing I liked least about this book was the “thriller” scene. This book was touted as a sexy romp and a thriller. The thrilling part of the novel wasn’t that exciting to me. Without spoiling, there was a lot of chasing and there was a reason for it, but there were other things that could have been more engaging. The gangsters at the beginning of the novel who shot at Russ could have been after them, or whoever burned down the campsite could have been stalking them. I just didn’t find the actual event that took place that suspenseful.
Overall, I thought the book was fun, if imperfect. I would recommend it to someone looking for a short erotica piece. It would be a great beach read. I would not recommend it to someone looking for a suspense or thriller book. This is definitely for adults, and I would not recommend it to teens or children. As for the rating, I have to take away a star for the lack of thrilling that the book attempted. I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.
