Review by Kwetz -- The Date Farm by Jack Winnick
The Date Farm begins at a mall in Beverly Hills where a large group of people have gathered to watch different bands play throughout the mall. These people had no idea that a group of terrorists were there to perform a mass murder. Before they knew it, gunshots were ringing through the mall and within minutes, the whole massacre was over. The terrorists ended their own lives at the end of it and left people both dead and injured. The police claim that Islamic forces were behind this attack and are relating its casualties to that of September 11th.
As the book goes on, two agents are involved the most, Uri and Lara Levin. These agents are married and have been working together for years to help stop Islamic forces in the United States. There happens to be a break in occurring in New York just days after the attach in Beverly Hills. Uri and Lara take teams into two of the major bank buildings to try and disband the terrorists that were locking down those buildings. What they did not see coming was getting kidnapped and the terrorists obtaining a major metal that is used by the United States Military. The rest of the book continues to show the steps both Uri and Lara needed to take in order to get this metal back and find the two terrorists that were leading these attacks.
Throughout the book I really liked how the beginning of certain chapters let the reader know where in the world the chapter was going to take place. It really helped me understand when the chapter was changing direction or talking about something different than the previous chapter. I have read previous books in this series by Jack Winnick and this one seemed to be more straightforward with the location and change in scenery for the book.
Overall, I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I am giving this book a perfect review because it was well written and continued to pull me in until the very last page. It automatically grabbed my attention from the first 5 pages, and I enjoyed the mixture of action, romance and a little comedy.
I believe this book would appeal to people with different backgrounds and religions. It may be hard for certain ethnicities, like Israelis or Muslims. Even though it is fiction, this book could still be hard to read for some Muslims. A lot of the things that happen in this book were tough for me to read and process as a Christian from the United States, so I cannot imagine what other people think from other religions. It is a great book though and I really enjoyed all the action in it!
