What would you do if you knew for sure the exact day you would die? Would you gather family close and say your goodbyes? Or would you seek revenge on an enemy, or perhaps take your own life? Those are the questions faced by the characters in the fictional novel Final Notice by Van Fleisher, the first book in a two-book series.

Dr. Vijay Patel, an internal medicine physician and avid athlete, along with a small team, had developed a unique sports watch that could accurately measure blood chemicals as well as predict and diagnose health issues. The team had also added an extra feature called "final notice" that could accurately predict death within a 10, 20, or 30 day period. Owners of the watch could choose the time-period they wanted. During the initial testing phase, a certain number of the sports watches were given to doctors to decide which of their patients would be a candidate to receive one.

At about the same time as the watches were in their testing phase, the National Rifle Association (NRA) was offering a senior discount on guns. There were currently one million seniors that owned guns. There had also been a sudden rise in shootings by senior citizens. Soon it was discovered that some of the shooters were part of the testing group for the VT2 sports watch. Why were senior citizens suddenly in the news for shootings? Was there somehow a connection to the watch? Or was it a coincidence?

The author did a phenomenal job of creating this storyline. Second Amendment rights are an ongoing issue in the United States. Fleisher took the issue of guns and used it to weave a story around the large population of senior citizens as they were prime candidates for the VT2 watch. There are other issues such as school shootings, racial prejudice, and the corruption in our political system the author brings to the forefront of the story, as well.

What I liked most about this book is the stories of each character who was given a VT2 sports watch, and the different reactions of those who received a final notice. There wasn't anything I disliked about the book. The only complaint I have is that I felt the author was somewhat biased about gun ownership. Although Fleisher gave the pros and cons of each side of the issue, I thought he leaned more on the side of private citizens not owning guns.

The book is well-written and professionally edited. I found only two small errors. The characters are diverse, and their individual stories are compelling. I am pleased to rate Final Notice by Van Fleisher 4 out of 4 stars. There is some profanity, but not excessive; however, there are a couple of borderline words. There are also a couple of sex scenes that would be too detailed for the younger reader but not considered erotic.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, and I believe it will appeal to adults of all ages. I would also recommend it to gun owners, and anyone thinking about becoming a gun owner.

The theme of this appears to be quite interesting with a device like time machine which can tell how long a person is going to live. The book appears quite interesting. Thanks for for your nice review.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

I acquired this book recently when it was offered in the book of the day, but I haven't read it yet. I'm more confident now in investing time into what could be a delightful read. Thank you.

Anything can be used for good or for evil. Guns are no exception. I don't think I will ever use one. Well, I hope.

You are so right! The problem is the criminal will always find ways to get guns, regardless of the law. Thanks for dropping by!

You write well, Brenda. I am about to read this book myself. I find myself plagued by tons of questions already, but I want to get at the motive behind Patel’s invention. Was it altruistic or he was just being capitalistic? If the former, it will only reinforce that line of factuality I got from Austen’s Lizzy, that without scheming to do wrong, we may cause misery. It’s the concept of ‘unexpected invitees,’ the risk of causing more problems than we solve without knowing it, that I think this book revolves around. But let’s see. Thanks for a really helpful review.
