Without Redemption by David Griffith is a suspenseful terrific thriller based around a rodeo cowboy cum intelligence agent making life miserable for drug cartels. After a rodeo accident, Lonnie Bowers is gifted by his boss Frederick with tickets to a fully paid family holiday at Costa Rica but while there he has to retrieve some papers at a summit. Due to the risky nature of his job, he is a little hesitant but his wife Clarissa is excited and sees it as an opportunity for Lonnie to bond with his baby son Conor. Without means to support his family, Lonnie accepts the assignment but something goes very wrong at the summit and what seemed like a simple task becomes one of his most dangerous mission.

Lonnie has to protect his family as they escape through the jungle pursued by armed assassins led by Paolo, a hitman for Sinaloa drug cartel who is a highly skilled tracker and a ruthless killer. Unable to shake off the tracker and desperate to save his family, Lonnie entrusts his wife and son to Diego, a countryside resident, to escort them to a safe place but he is double crossed and Clarissa & Conor are taken by a rival drug cartel across the border to Nicaragua. Lonnie knows that things have changed and the tracker is no longer interested in pursuing him. But with a bullet hole in his leg and two wounded arms that can hardly hold a gun, can Lonnie save his family on time?

What I liked most about the book was how the author portrays Lonnie and his wife Clarissa. Lonnie is portrayed as a brave & intelligent spy who remains calm in the face of danger as he plays mind games with the tracker heightening the suspense and keeping a reader turning pages into the wee hours of the night. He is also very loving, kind and gentle to his wife and these traits help him to build trust and gather intel from people without any violence. I couldn’t help but fall in love with Clarissa, a woman of faith who does not support any form of killing. You expect her to be furious, scared and emotional after their vacation is ruined but she remains strong, calm & composed until the very end when she pulls a surprise that will shock readers. This couple walk together hand in hand as they find deliverance from drug cartel’s hate & horror, a release they desperately need, because without redemption, there is no peace.

I did not like the first three pages of chapter one which begins with Lonnie taking part in a horse racing competition which I found boring because of the cow boy technical terms. It might give a reader wrong first impression of the book and I did not understand the relevance of that section as the rest of the book focuses on Lonnie as an intelligence operative. However once you pass that section, the story gets very interesting.

I would rate the book 4 out of 4 stars because it is well written and edited with no vulgar or erotic scenes. I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys an action packed read, beliefs in the power of God and upholds biblical family values.
