When a book draws you in to the story after only reading a few pages, one can only hope that the ending is as satisfying as the beginning. No Reprieve by Inge-Lise Goss succeeded in catching my attention at the start of the story and maintaining my interest throughout its pages. When I reached the ending, I was left excited for the sequel. Inge-Lise Goss’s writing creates visual images that are clearly imaginable. The entire story is well-written and engaging. I give No Reprieve 4 out of 4 stars for the futuristic content and the ability of the author to maintain the reader’s belief that this could occur in a future society.

No Reprieve by Inge-Lise Goss introduces a futuristic world where artificial intelligence has created a system of taking over the government, police structures, and other business interactions. The book begins with providing a description of The Institute which is the agency who creates the artificial intelligence and is tasked with creating realistic androids and transforming humans into cyborgs without the people closest to them being able to detect the difference. Next, the story quickly introduces Paislee who is the love interest of the powerful android, Pellegrin. Paislee has escaped the Institute and the grip of her ex-boyfriend. She has joined forces with the Rebel group who is trying to stop the spread of influence that The Institute maintains over human interactions. Paislee receives her first Rebel assignment to work in a courthouse file room in hopes of being able to learn more about the judges and view important case files. She performs successfully in her assignment until she accidently runs into Pellegrin. The android eventually recaptures Paislee and she now must reprove her loyalty to the human looking robot. This causes a dangerous change to her rebel assignment. The story ends with Paislee proving her loyalty and demonstrating that she is stronger than other people and she herself believed she could be.

My favorite part of No Reprieve is the dynamic characters and the intrigue that the author creates. Inge-Lise Goss creates protagonists and antagonists that are multi-dimensional. The reader can connect with these characters and become involved in the characters’ plight. Because the reader makes connections with the characters, they become actively engaged in the thrilling adventure.

While I give this book 4 stars, there are two minor typing errors. My least favorite part of this book is that some of the chapters were short and choppy. The breaks between some chapters seemed unnecessary but did not distract from the overall flow of the story or the atmosphere create by the author.

If you enjoy futuristic action-based stories, then No Reprieve is a perfect fit for you. In a world where technology is becoming more directly linked to daily life, the premise of this story becomes more believable.
