Review by Viczboy16 -- Mixed Blessings by J.M. Muse
Mixed Blessings by J.M. Muse is a book that talks about racism and racial wars between people of different color and how governance of America revolves around the different races which include the whites and the blacks.
The book centers on two main characters; Kim and Kublai. Kim is of a mixed-race, her dad is Mexican while her mother is Jewish. Kim's dad is married to Magdalene; an American woman and they live in Mexico with their two children: Juanita and Hermando. Kim lives with her mom in San Francisco and will visit her dad in Mexico. It is very normal for her to be anxious given that she doesn't speak Spanish well and how her classmates treat her because of her race. The other main character in the story is Michael Kublai Khan, a black man who leads a church and is working his way into politics.
Kim is interested in a relationship with a guy who will love her despite her race whereas Michael Kublai Khan wants the world free of racism using a weird method by convincing white women to get pregnant for black men in his church. Michaels plan kept me glued to the book as I was so eager to find out if he was successful with the plan.
I enjoyed how the author inaugurated ideas that had hints of government, politics, rivalry, affection, and even resentment. I also adored the political atmosphere the writer could establish to the reader. I enjoyed how the story proceeds from various viewpoints that assist to provide an incredible plot. A character I enjoyed is Kublai Khan, who gives an intriguing take on the standpoint of politics while he works to achieve his goals and we can see the picture from Kublai perspective as he tries to achieve his missions in the political world.
However, I disliked the fact that the author didn't give a very good description of the scenes and gave the reader little details. I was hoping the author would make me imagine how beautiful or ugly Kim was. Also on page-11, Kim feared the security team that escorted her dad to the airport, but Muze left very little detail. Other than little details given, the book is good.
I enjoyed the book and I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because the book was professionally edited. I did not find any errors, and hence I wasn't distracted while reading. I recommend this book to anyone interested in philosophy or history. Also, this book is suitable for all age grades.
