An Imperfect Crime is a spine-tingling mystery that revolves around the topics of jealousy and deceit. With its amazing plot twists that made me keep turning the pages, it was impossible to put the book away. I finished it in one sitting!

It all started with what seemed like a foolproof plan for three friends who wanted to write a successful novel. To be prosperous, Peter Simpson, Allister Brown, and Sarah Parker plotted to fake a murder without actually killing anyone, and end up writing a famous novel about it later. Little did they know that their plan would backfire and end up getting Peter Simpson executed for his best friend's murder. Fast forward to a year later, Peter Simpson's priest, Father Guillermo Montero believes that he is innocent and teams up with Detective Lori Sanchez to find the real killer. At the same time, Detective Sanchez gets tangled up in cases involving drugs and gunrunning. After finding out that these cases might be connected, Detective Sanchez and Father Montero are sent on a wild goose chase from Phoenix, Arizona to Mexico. Will they find the true killer? How are these cases connected? How far is the killer willing to go to cover up his/her tracks?

Fred G. Baker has done an incredible job of creating an engaging and erratic plot. The action and suspense were very well-descriptive, making it come alive and captured my attention until the very end. In this fast-pacing story, nothing was foreseeable. The detective characters in the story are very humorous and amiable. The characters were portrayed very realistically without exaggerating anything. The dialogues were also very engaging, allowing us to support the characters and their actions throughout the whole book. This novel really surprised me. I didn't see the plot twists coming at all! I was hooked from the start.

I loved the author's writing style, which was very appealing and descriptive and made the execution of the storyline beautiful. The descriptions of the action and fighting made it seem like you were there with them, witnessing the whole thing!

To conclude, there isn't much I disliked about this book. There were a lot of profane words and the book had some triggering content for some readers such as rape and prostitution. The novel was edited professionally. Because of its gripping plot and descriptive characters along with the action, I heartily give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this book to anyone who loves thrillers, crime, and mystery. I would also recommend it to an audience that loves vivid descriptions of police investigations and fighting.
