[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Room Beyond" by Stephanie Elmas.]

This book centers around 36 Marguerite Avenue where there is a Beautiful Mansion with lots of stories to tell from two different time frames. The book starts with Serena who goes for an interview as a nanny for the eccentric family living in the Mansion. After the strange interview Serena gets the job and starts off her life as nanny to young Beth. Then the book jumps to 1892 to follow the life of Miranda Whitestone who lived in 34 Marguerite Avenue and Lucinda Eden who lived in 36 Marguerite Avenue. Serena starts to find out that things and the people are not as they seem at 36 Marguerite Avenue. Miranda’s and Lucinda’s lives become entwined with all the heartache they both endure. Throughout the story the book jumps back and forth between the three women so we can experience each off their stories from their point of view.

The book falls into quite a few different genre’s such as Crime, mystery and in my opinion a touch of romance even though it is not the usual kind.

The author has a good writing style, although the book lacked the capacity to captivate the audience at certain places, but did get better as the book progressed. The author made sure there was a lot of detail in the book so that the reader knew what was happening in the book without confusion. The author also managed to beautifully switch between the different characters and era’s without leaving you in doubt of whose story was being followed. As the book ends you start to see parts of the past entwining into the future, bringing the characters from the past to life and at the end of the book you understand the reason for having both the stories from the past and the future.

The book was a good book with a good story line with some great characters. I enjoyed the quirkiness and eccentricities of the characters. I love the fact that the weak became strong in this book, living up to the saying ‘ What does not kill you only makes you stronger’. I enjoyed the ending and the way the story came together with the big mystery being solved and all the characters lives becoming what they should be.

This book is definitely a must read for lovers of mystery books as it is cloaked in mystery and intrigue. I rate this book 3 out of 4.
