Review by _angela27 -- The Date Farm by Jack Winnick
The Date Farm by Jack Winnick is another part of the Uri and Lara series. This sequel follows two secret agents, Lara and Uri, on yet another anti-terrorist mission. In this edition of the series, hundreds of civilians are killed and injured in a huge terrorist attack launched on a mall in Beverly Hills. A few days later, the same terrorist group attacks the two largest financial buildings in New York City: The Federal Reserve and the Chase Manhattan Bank. They also manage to knock out all the communications networks in the area, further hindering the government’s ability to retaliate. Lara and Uri are assigned to take two separate teams into the two buildings to find the terrorists who have taken over and rescue any survivors. The terrorists are suspected to be after something that is confidentially stored in one of the two buildings. Lara and Uri are faced with many difficulties and setbacks along the way, but it is up to these two secret agents to redeem the United States’ stolen possessions and put an end to this terrorist group.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book had an exciting plot, although at some points the plot moved a little too slow for my liking. However, the characters were well developed and engaging. Despite the small area where the storyline slowed down too much, I would not rate this book any lower than 4 stars because it was well-written overall. There were also very few typos or grammatical errors, giving the impression that this book was well-edited by a professional.
My favorite element of this book, as with all of Winnick’s other books, is the plot. I always enjoy seeing how these two agents cleverly work their way out of sticky situations and the strategies they use to track down the bad guys. Even with a little too much detail at one point in the story, Winnick always has me coming back for more of this adventurous plot of this series.
I loved everything about this book. There was nothing I disliked in particular. Just like the other books in this series, The Date Farm is another gripping read that will keep you on your toes as you watch the plot unfold.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction or action as this book is filled with both of these elements. However, since the protagonist of this book is the United States’ government, the author does express some anti-Islamic views. If these viewpoints might offend a reader’s beliefs, I wouldn’t recommend reading this book. Otherwise, another great job to Jack Winnick for never failing to impress me with these novels.
