An Imperfect Crime is a fictional crime story with a complex mystery and twist.

The story begins with struggling ambitious writers who have recently graduated from U.C. Berkley. Peter is hanging out with Allister and Sarah. Peter and Allister were roommates until Allister got together with Peter's ex-girlfriend Sarah. Peter consented with the pairing and decided to move out and date other people. While having some beers, the group discusses the lack of success in their writing careers. Allister makes a ridiculous proposition for a book idea to stage a perfect murder that would involve all circumstantial evidence pointing to Peter. Once the group decides that this would be a great segway to literary success, Allister and Sarah create a murder scene that gets Peter arrested and convicted. After Peter is sentenced for his fake crime, Montero, a retired cop turned priest, team up with a local Phoenix police officer named Sanchez. The duo finds numerous holes that could blow the group's cover, but the author provides a twist that ramps up the plot.

It takes a particular reader to digest the intensity of this story. For fans of murder and crime mystery, such as myself, this story is a roller coaster ride that will keep the reader guessing. Excited to find out all the clues, this page-turner will bring you closer to the truth, but once you think you've solved the story, the author provides more twists and layers that make you question what you thought to be true.

This story might be overwhelming because of its everchanging clues and dramatic events. It also features triggering subject matters such as violence, drugs, sex trafficking, and guns. The language has a few vulgarities, but nothing offensive or overly explicit.

I couldn't put the book down, so I give it 4 out of 4 stars. The book was well published and easy to read without any grammatical errors. The author keeps you on your toes throughout the entire time. You have to pay attention because all of the evidence presented can be overwhelming. After every chapter, when you start to feel like you're putting the story into perspective, the author introduces even more foul play and intensity into the narrative. Still, it makes this fast-paced story even more exciting to read. I see there is a sequel coming out, and I can't wait to read it.
