A train full of different faces is rumbling on the rails. Among many people, there is also a man who is lost in his thoughts. Touching a deadly vest beneath his clothes, he is thinking about a final meet with his mother after a long time. A student notices a red wire and a detonator peeking from his pocket. In a second, screams are filling the interior, scared faces are trying to exit the train, and people are fighting for their lives.

Duplicity by Fin C. Gray is a thriller that deals with mental illness, loss, family, and life. I am free to say that Duplicity is a masterpiece as the author combined and analyzed sensitive themes we face every day.

Tom and Alison are a wonderful couple who are blessed with their two children, Daniel and Jenny. A family tragedy leaves marks on Daniel, and he eventually loses track of life after it. The author follows Daniel’s story, as well as the story of his father. Each chapter has a plot that happens at a different time, some of them in Daniel's childhood, some of them in his adulthood. That way, the author allows us to follow Daniel and his mental state from the beginning of his life. I was delighted that Gray had penetrated Daniel’s condition so well that I sympathized with him through the entire book. In one moment, I was terrified of his condition, and in the other, I was brought to tears. His story touched my heart because he went through a lot and kept everything for himself. A child should not experience something like that.

I love how the author developed characters as normal people, but with a twist. I also like the way the author gave shape to every character. For example, I could see Alison’s influence on Daniel through his actions.

Duplicity is a fast-paced book, and I can say it is one of the best, but the hardest books I have ever read. I am delighted that I could review it, and I am hoping to see it like a bestseller one day.

This book is professionally edited and flawless as I haven’t come across a single mistake. There is profanity present in it, but there are no graphic scenes.

I am giving this book a strong 4 out of 4 stars because of the author’s immense talent to penetrate the reader with his writing style. I highly recommend this book to those who like fiction with a touch of reality. This book is a heavy read, and I do not recommend it to young readers and those who are sensitive to tragedies.
