Review by Pamela Bianca Mas -- Waves Break (on Unknown S...
The book entitled Waves Break (on Unknown Shores) by Barry W. Litherland, tells the story of Phil and Wayne whose friendship sprouted in childhood and was forever bonded by witnessing the death of a mutual friend, Stevie. It looks back to past events leading to the death of Stevie, and tells their present story which is decorated by a crime, a murder, and a very thrilling investigation. They meet and reconnect with people in their past as they figure out how to manage with current events that poses danger to themselves and the people they care about. It’s a story about how experiences mold people and relationships.
I personally liked the dynamics of the characters. They are written sophisticatedly and all are very relatable; readers will crave to find out what happens to each one of them. Another thing that stands out for me is the way the story was written: uncomplicated and well-developed. The pace was spot on, having readers continuously engaged and turning the pages. There are unexpected twists as the story progresses that will make readers concerned and curious.
I recommend this book to people who are into crime and mystery genre or those who prefer an edgy and suspense-filled read. The book will surely satisfy readers’ hunger for thrilling scenes that will keep us on the edge of our seats, gripped from start to finish, wanting to know what’s next. The book also keeps the balance by inserting entertaining moments and witty puns to maintain the scales for a wonderful book.
One thing I disliked about this book is the constant swearing in dialogue of the characters, although it is true that the way the conversation unfolds really strengthens the personality of the characters. The writer could make it a little more subtle. Also, there are a few overlooked mistakes but still the context is clear and easily understood and the book could get away with some errors. All in all, the book is really something to endorse to book lovers making sure they are given the warning of the profane language.
I would rate this book 4 out of 4 because the story line is polished and very appealing. The jumps from past to present in the flow of storytelling adds anticipation to the reading experience. Despite the profanity of language that goes on through the book, there are a lot of takeaway lessons and realizations that would make the readers want to reach out to old relationships and catch up and most importantly it makes readers think of how each action affects not only themselves but also everyone around them.
