I will suggest you grab a drink and some cookies before embarking on this journey of reading The Commander by Dan E. Hendrickson. The Commander is a captivating novel that offers lovers of action novel a compelling storyline. It is the fifth book in The Last Enemy series, consisting of 18 chapters and 192 pages.

Lt. Commander Jacob Edwards of the United States Coast Guard commands a patrol cutter and a pirate/smuggler task force in the Caribbean. He is part of an inter-military law enforcement black ops program headed by Captain Tommy Williams. Jacob is promoted to Commander's status. Given the command of the Hamilton-class cutter, First Responder. The Saudi Arabian prince, Abuella Hasheen, hatches a plan with Boris Rasmov to sabotage oil rigs in the United States and depose the Saudi Arabian king. Commander Jacob Edward, along with his crew, works hand in hand to uncover the terrorists' plans to stop any threat against the United States of America.

The author's writing style was fantastic. The one thing that made me love the book was the way the author described the scenes. He was able to use words to create a very vivid picture. The naval terms used in this book were accurate, and this showed the book was well-researched. The book was also coherent and well structured.

There was nothing to dislike about this book. I enjoyed how the author exposed the reader to each side of the story. The minor and major characters in the book were well developed. These characters conveyed emotions, and their roles were clearly expressed. My favorite character in the book was Commander Jacob Edwards. I enjoyed the way he handled his emotions in the story. After the incident with his Gunnery Chief, one would have expected him to seek revenge against Gunny Jones, but he managed to control his anger issues. He was also quick to realize himself and change his kill order to a capture order with the authorization of lethal force.

As this book was professionally edited, I only encountered a few errors while reading this book. These did not hinder my reading comprehension. The book contains a well-constructed plot, and the author's writing style was engaging. The language used in the book was simple and easy to understand. Due to these reasons, I am rating The Commander 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this book to lovers of action thrilling novels.
