Deadly Odds 3.0 by Allen Wyler is a suspenseful book. The book begins with a phone call from a terrorist named Naseem to a guy named Arnold. Arnold has designed a high-tech computer program that Naseem wants to steal, and the two have a lengthy history from previous books in this series. This book is about Arnold trying to finally end Naseem’s mission to destroy Arnold and steal his high-tech computer program. Naseem has vowed to steal the technology and kill Arnold or become a martyr trying to accomplish those tasks. Arnold involves his lawyer, Davidson, FBI agent Fisher, and FBI cyber expert Chang in the efforts to stop Naseem. The book bounces back and forth between Hawaii and Seattle.
I think the audience for this book would be folks who have previously read a book in this series, and anyone who enjoys suspense and action books. This book should be read by anyone interested in terrorism. I found this book to be a very easy, quick read that was very suspenseful.
I liked the way the book shifted perspective from character to character. I liked that the book took a lot of thrilling twists and turns, so the investigation was unpredictable. The characters keep trying to outwit each other which adds to the suspense of the book overall. I also enjoyed some of the lighter moments in this book, like when Arnold plays with his dog Chance or talks about decorating his new house.
The thing I disliked most about this book was that it contained a lot of grammatical errors and profanity. This book is the third in the series, and while it is not necessary to read the prior book to understand this book, I think it would be helpful to have more background information about the prior conflicts between Arnold and Naseem. There were portions of the book where I felt a bit out of the loop when events from prior books were being discussed. Also, I would have liked to have more background information about Arnold’s romantic relationship with Rachael. I also thought the plot point about Arnold’s future education and career plans was an unfinished story that could have been touched on at the end of the book.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The reason for this ranking is that while I found it a suspenseful read, I did not enjoy the grammatical errors or profanity, and I would have enjoyed knowing more about the background of the characters.
