The Date Farm by Jack Winnick begins with a violent terror attack at a shopping mall in Beverly Hills. Mossad agent Uri Levin and his wife, FBI agent Lara Edmond, are tasked with finding out who perpetrated the attack. They find out that terrorists are planning to infiltrate the Chase Manhattan and Federal Reserve Banks, with the goal of stealing an enormous amount of valuable materials. Uri and Lara’s mission sends them from protecting the banks from the heist, all the way to going undercover at a farm in rural Iran.

This is Winnick’s fourth book about the characters of Lara and Uri, but they can be read in any order. I found this to be the best book in Winnick’s series that I have read so far (I have read books 1, 2, 3, and now 4).

While some of his other installments had long sections where I felt the story dragged on, that was not the case with The Date Farm. It contains a great combination of suspense and action. This book also had a good balance between the sections focusing on Lara and Uri and those that focused on the terrorists and other characters.

The Date Farm had plenty of action that helped the story feel exciting and easy to read. The first part is mainly about Lara and Uri being sent to protect the gold at the banks. But, their mission takes a turn when the terrorists’ plan turns out to not be what they had expected. The next big part of the story is when they are sent undercover to a date farm in Iran in order to infiltrate the terrorists and foil their plans. I felt that these two parts flowed very well together and really drew me into the action.

I rate The Date Farm by Jack Winnick 4 out of 4 stars. There was nothing in this book that I would consider a negative. I really enjoyed the characters Lara and Uri, and their plots were always entertaining. I did not notice any grammatical or spelling errors. This book contains very mild and infrequent profanity. But, due to the more complex topics it includes, it would be best for more mature audiences. Readers who enjoy action thrillers with an international political element will be sure to enjoy The Date Farm.
