The Dark Web Murders by Brian O’Hare is book four of The Inspector Sheehan Mysteries. Set in Northern Ireland, this time Chief Inspector Sheehan is on the hunt for a psychopath serial killer.

Judge Trevor Neeson is the first victim. The scene is gruesome. Killed by a single blow to the head, the naked body has also been sodomized with a police truncheon. The judge’s assistant tells the detectives that the judge has made many enemies from the people he has sentenced to prison.

The second victim is a lawyer, Michael Stevens. The murder scene is the same as Judge Neeson’s. The detectives fail to find a connection between the murders with the exception that the two men knew each other. Sheehan’s detective partner, Sergeant Denise Stewart, is a computer whiz and by chance finds an internet site called The Dark Web. The murderer is posting a long psychological explanation and details about the murders. The murderer is clearly demented.

After the third victim, The Dark Web posts clues as to the fourth and final victim but this victim will not be murdered just traumatized. The detective team pushes to solve the puzzle before anyone else is hurt. But the next victim may be closer to the team than they realize. Can they get to him in time to warn or save him? What did The Dark Web mean by traumatized?

I gladly give this book a 4 out of 4 rating. It is very well edited, easy to read, and the story line easy to follow. It is so well written that you are in suspense right to the end. And do not worry about the apparent misspellings. The author used the British spelling for many of the words. But this book may not be for all readers. You must be ready to handle the gruesome details of the murders and even worse when the detectives discover a house of sexual horrors.

The Dark Web internet space leaves you with a question about whether such a space could really exist. And could this space be used to chat about murders or order sexual favors. The murderer uses the space to justify his actions and detail his thought process so you get to see inside his very demented brain.

So if you are looking for a book with suspense, mystery, drama, a little romance, and even some humor, you will like The Dark Web Murders. Once you start the book, it is hard to put it down. I tried to guess the murderer’s identity as the detectives were working through the case and I had no idea until the end. I challenge you to read this book and see if you can identify the murderer before the end. It will surprise you!
