Review by MrsTurner2013 -- The Dark Web Murders
Are you someone who enjoys books with suspense, revenge, and retribution spilling out of every page? Are you intrigued by the darker hidden secrets that society does not want you to know? How about a narcissistic psychopath who blogs all the details of his murders with a philosophical twist?
You will love The Dark Web Murders by Brian O’Hare. It is the fourth book of the Inspector Sheehan Mysteries. It is staged in Northern Ireland and begins with a list of characters and acronyms used by the police as a helpful reference for readers to use so the suspense is not broken. The plot flows with mere perfection and readers will be nose deep in this narrative for days. The intrigue is endless and will leave the reader wanting more.
Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan responds to a unique call about a murder. The victim is the well-known, Judge Neeson, who was famous for being brutal in his sentencing of prisoners. He was found with his head bashed in and a trudgen placed in a strategic location. His judicial assistant, Edgar Doran, who found him said that he had been blackmailed the night before during a party he was hosting. Sheehan interrogates the people present at the party as to the nature and purpose of the meeting. The interviewees are suspiciously quiet about the nature of the meeting. They are hiding something but what?
The Dark Web is a place hidden underneath your everyday Google search. The only access to it is through meticulously disguised IPs and the identity of each person is completely anonymous. The Web is used for the darker services of society, from murders to the deepest of sexual urges. A blog appears focusing on the idea of justice and describes the event and thrill of bashing someone’s head in with a trudgen and placing the murder weapon in the most pleasing of places. The blogger leaves his readers with a promise of more to come. It is signed Nemein.
This novel is not for the faint of heart as it discusses the darkest urges of society, from murder and torture to sexual slaves of all ages at the service of clients for the right price. This is not a book for children. If, as a reader, you are not prone to unsettling details; I recommend staying away from this crime thriller. If you are a reader who loves to squirm in your chair from exposure to concepts that would give a normal reader terror, I recommend this book wholeheartedly.
This reviewer feels that giving this book a rating any lower than a 4 out of 4 would be an utter insult to the author’s brilliance! It was written with an exceptional eye! No mistakes in either grammar or spelling! This reviewer has no complaints about any dislikes in the novel! It was a smooth and clever experience that is easy to be lost in for hours! The task of picking the most liked aspect of this novel was torture for this reviewer. Many features of this novel were well liked by this reviewer. However, after much deliberation, the most liked aspect of this book must be the way in which Nemein made readers think about philosophical concepts that he thinks excuses his actions.
Brian O’Hare should be at the top of the list for crime writers! The style and finesse of this masterpiece is worthy of high praise from all who read it! His skill at keeping his readers captivated in the mystery and suspense is commendable! As a constant reader of mystery and crime novels, he took my breath away! Anyone who reads this book will not want to put it down. This reviewer is looking forward to any upcoming books from O’Hare, for he has acquired himself a new fan!
The Dark Web Murders by Brian O’Hare is the best crime novel I have read yet!
