The God Particle is a crime, thriller, fiction novel that examines one of the world’s leading nuclear research facilities: CERN in Switzerland. The driving force of the novel is the research to discover the God Particle and the secret organization that for decades has been halting its discovery. The reader is educated about scientific matters and thrown into the inner workings of part of the scientific community. We follow the lead character has he tries to discover the truth, not only of his predecessors death, but also that of the Large Hadron Collider.
From the moment I started reading this novel, I knew I would find it enjoyable. The pace set from the beginning allowed me to gradually understand the scope of the problems presented, as well as relate to the characters as they were introduced. The story propelled itself well and even with the constant flux of new scientific information provided, I was never overwhelmed by the science behind the story. The characters were intriguing, engaging and well developed. The relationships that formed, and the situations that arose tested each character and helped define them as the novel progressed.
One thing that I must applaud the author for was how well written and well researched this novel was. Too often you see an author overwhelmed by translating the science to an audience in a novel, which was not the case with The God Particle. It’s obvious that he put a lot of time into not only researching the science but also in understanding it so he could effectively relay that information. This novel would not have been a success without his research.
I give this novel 4 out of 4 stars. It was informative, well written and well executed which is what I considered to be a triumphant novel. I will in the future look forward to more novels by Danser.
