Review: Open Season by Archer Mayor

Post by vermontelf »

I honestly downloaded Open Season onto our kindle because it was cheap and I recognized the author. I’ve read several of his other books and enjoy them as they often are located in places I know, sometimes with characters I recognize.

I found Open Season a decent but not thrilling read. If I had had the time I would have read it in one sitting, turning the pages trying to figure out whodunit. As I was reading, I found the character development to be almost more interesting than the actual story. As I understand, this is the first book by Mr Mayor with this character (who is center in many following books), the pilot episode if you will. I greatly enjoy these characters in later books as their characters have become more “real”. This book provides interesting background to the characters and situation that follow in later books.

I did not find this to be Mr Mayor’s strongest piece of writing, but I do recommend it to anyone enjoying an adult easy-read detective novel.
