Rumours Of Angels, written by Stephen Nuttall, centers on Detective Jack Somerville as he is unknowingly drafted into the fight between Angels and Demons in his town of Hartwood. Hartwood’s Christian community has become corrupted by a false Church led by Benedict Ademola, and the other Churches have become weakened by the demons that find welcome in the members. The power of the Angels has weakened in this town, and the presence of the Demons has grown. Jack’s investigations lead him deeper into the conflict as the Demon influence in the town leads to an explosion of crime. Jack’s life experience and his long career with the police have made him bitter and jaded. He doesn’t believe in God, so he doesn’t believe in Angels and Demons. He is about to find out just how real they are as the battle of God’s Angels and Satan’s Demons launches in his territory and on his watch.

Jack is rather unpleasant at the beginning of the book, but I like how the author shows little bits of the old Jack to give the reader hope for him. I also really like that the author makes the human characters have good and bad sides. I didn’t care for some scenes where the Angels intervened, resulting in characters being suddenly cured of something that they probably should have had to go to therapy to overcome. The author uses those things as examples of the miracle of prayer and God’s gifts, but I think that a combination of miracles and personal development would have been a better approach.

While Rumours Of Angels is geared toward Christian readers, I think many others will find this book to be an enjoyable read. I am not very religious, but I enjoyed the mystery and action in this book. The introduction of a large cast of characters makes the beginning of the book a little slow, but once I got into the heart of the story, I couldn’t put it down. If you believe in Angels and Demons existing in the world, you might really like this book. I don’t believe in those things, but I still had serious goosebumps during some scenes.

Rumours of Angels covers some very serious topics and contains graphic scenes. There are references to sexual content, but they are not described in a sexually explicit manner. I would not recommend this book to children due to the violent scenes and heavy topics. This book portrays a very specific variety of Christian beliefs, so I would caution readers who may be offended by opposing religious views to consider that before choosing to read this book.

This book has a great vocabulary, and I encountered a lot of words and phrases that I was unfamiliar with. It was also quite interesting to find out that many words are not spelled the same and hold slightly different meanings in other parts of the world (I am in the USA). The book has some minor errors, but nothing that detracts from the reading experience. However, I am detracting one star from my rating due to the slow beginning. I definitely enjoyed the story after I got through the slow start, so it is worth getting through the set up to get to the action. I was entertained, I learned many new words, and I learned quite a bit about certain parts of the Holy Bible. I rate Rumours of Angels 3 out of 4 stars.

Wow! The book sounds interesting. Books about demons and angels are mostly interesting. Glad you enjoyed reading the book despite the fact you don't fancy the believe in the existence of demons and angels. Your review is really interesting. Kudos👍

Great review. It makes me want to read the book. I believe in Angels and Demons, but I hope this book isn't as predictable as others.

The use of religion in this kind of novel is tricky, but a supernatural crime thriller can be intriguing. Thank you for your great review!

This is my kind of book. I will be reading this one for sure. I may not share the same beliefs, but I am open to taking a peek in to someone else's world. I love books and films that have themes involving angels and demons. I have always been interested in learning and exploring different religions. The church specifically has always had a plethora of stories that tend to be fascinating, but not always in the best ways I must say. Looking forward to a good read.
