The 'Dark Web Murders' is the fourth instalment of The Inspector Sheehan Mysteries written by Brian O'Hare.

When the body of Judge Trevor Neeson is discovered at his opulent home, Detective Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan and his team are called in to investigate. Unbeknownst to them, they are about to descend into a labyrinth from which there is no escape. For the first murder will uncover a dark and twisted underworld, laying bare the depths of human depravity.

The Club caters to the elite, the powerful, and the rich, with very particular predilections. Would the members of ‘The Club’ go to any lengths to prevent their dark secrets from coming to light? Would they kill to protect those secrets?

Then, a series of blog posts start to appear on the Dark Web. Justice. Vengeance. Justification. Hate. These are the philosophical arguments put forth by the one who calls himself Nemein, the nemesis, here to exact punishment on those who have committed injustices.

But Nemein is no avenging angel. A ruthless and calculated psychopath who leaves a particularly disturbing calling card that baffles Jim and his team, leaving them with more questions than answers.

When two of their own are in peril it becomes a race against time. For time, is most certainly running out. Will the team be able to put the last pieces of the puzzle together before it is too late?

From the moment I turned the first page, I was enthralled. I absolutely love murder mysteries, the more twisty and turny, the better, and O'Hare is one of the best I have ever read. I cannot fathom why he is not better known because O’Hare is up there with the likes of Tess Gerritsen and Chris Carter.

All in all, a fast-paced, brilliantly written novel, that will hold the reader’s attention, and keep them guessing right up until the end. A well deserved four out of four for the author.

I particularly enjoyed how the author engaged the reader by subtly and cleverly hiding clues within the pages, which left me wanting to scream the answers at the police. I also loved how the author seamlessly brought together fact and fiction with titbits of the “troubles” in Northern Island, as well as Brexit. It kept the story believable and the characters relatable.

The only negative comment I have is the overuse of the word, 'effeminate'. It appears several times throughout the book when describing certain features of characters. I would have preferred the author to find different words to describe the feminine qualities of certain male characters.

I highly recommend ‘The Dark Web Murders' to readers who love crime fiction novels. A word of caution, this book is not for children nor is it for sensitive readers. Some scenes are disturbing in nature and delve into child sex trafficking and sadomasochistic practices.
