Review by provy -- Final Notice by Van Fleisher
Final Notice by Van Fleisher is a work of fiction that centers on a group of people and their experience with the much controversial issue of guns in the modern day United States of America.
The author delivers a fresh plot twist in this novel to address the much dreaded, yet important issue of gun control. The novel is meant to spark a conversation when read and it gets the reader thinking on a much deeper level about control. The book, shows different stories about different individuals that somehow interconnect to give a superb work of literature. There are some characters which only feature once in the book yet, the majority of the characters can be followed throughout the book, as they each give a fresh and different perspective to the development of the story.
Although the dominant theme of the book is about gun control, the book centers on a number of issues that affect people in their day to day life. The author raises the question of how people would react on their impending mortality. Do the lines of good and evil get blurred if one knew that he or she will die at a given date? Does something unleash in a person if he or she has nothing to lose? The final notice feature in the book which lets a person know when they are going to die is an intriguing concept because, some people decide to do good while others settle scores and get revenge.
Van Fleisher also centers on other controversial issues plaguing modern day America. He urges people to appoint politicians who care about serving the republic rather than those who do it for their own selfish gain. Another issue that the book addresses is the issue of racism. Minority groups are still facing abuse because of the color of their skin or their religion. The book clearly states that white privilege is still rampant in America and if it is to be abolished, everyone needs to play a part. Final Notice indicates that no matter how hard a person of color works, there is always a disadvantage that comes with belonging to a minority group.
The main theme of the book is the controversy surrounding gun ownership. Is free access to gun ownership really the solution to safety especially around vulnerable people (old people according to the book) or does it just create more problems? I felt like the author was leaning towards the negative effects of gun ownership among the population, although he leaves room for debate. As a reader I felt provoked and challenged to think about the issues that affect the human population in this modern age. I loved the fact that Van Fleisher delivers these heavy topics in an intriguing way that is completely captivating and this makes this book a worthy read.In addition, the author also mentions the theme of police brutality and how it needs to be addressed.
Final Notice contains erotic scenes, but they are not graphic and they do not take away from the enjoyment of the story. The novel does contain an instance of non-borderline profanity but there is not much swearing in the book. The book is well edited and, contains only a few typos which are negligible. Final Notice can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of age, gender or religion.
The novel is worth of a 4 out 4-star rating. It is exceptional and a very good read.
