Official Review: Behind the Facade

Post by ladylioness »

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Behind the Facade" by Rebecca and Victoria Heap.]

I am reviewing the book “Behind the Façade” by Rebecca and Victoria Heap. It’s a book of fiction with 2 heroes, one overcoming revenge and seeking justice and the other learning to trust and find herself again while leaving a nightmare behind.

The books main villain, Harry Pearson, runs a high end car dealership that is a front for a darker trade, selling women. It just so happens he sells Brenna, beloved sister to Sean Murphy, to a twisted individual that ends up affecting more than just her life. Sean focuses on finding what happened to his sister and who is to blame and accidently encounters Katherine Pearson the unknowing daughter of a monster. He has no choice but to take Kate hostage one night that begins her nightmare. Sean never actually causes her any harm, but to her pampered and sheltered life where her father protects her from everything, the incident was terrifying and shattered her innocence. Katherine is rescued by her father’s henchman and Sean disappears into the night after performing CPR on Kate to save her life. Over the next few years, Sean works diligently on a plan for revenge and bringing down the man responsible for hole in his heart and Kate works on getting her life back to normal and reclaiming some of her innocence.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I found I literally couldn’t put it down until I finished. It was very well written and the story flowed in a manner that never left me bored and ever eager to turn the next page. It is a very thought provoking tale of revenge, love, trust, and finding justice.

Sean’s character was well defined both physically and emotionally. It was very easy to care about his hardship and determination. If I could improve on one aspect of the book, it would be Kate’s character. I didn’t like how she seemed shallow at times. She was engaged at the time of the kidnapping, supposedly very in love with her betrothed and yet found her kidnapper attractive. After years of trying to work through her nightmare, it seemed too easy to have feelings for the next gentleman in her life. I would have liked to have seen her struggle with her feelings more than just throw herself at him.

Overall, I will give this book a 4 out of 4 rating. The authors did such a splendid job on weaving a plot that involved intrigue, suspense, and a touch of romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to more by these sisters.
