I am currently reading The Case of the Crooked Candle by Erle Stanley Gardner. It's a Perry Mason crime story. AIt concerns a lady who has had an accident and a man who wants to buy a parcel of land from her. This man is subsequently involved in a murder and goes missing. His daughter approaches Perry Mason and retains him to act for her family in the case to clear her father's name. At present, Della Street, Mason's secretary, and the young woman, Carol Burbank, have been questioned by the Los Angeles Police for withholding a vital piece of information---a pair of women's shoes. Perry Mason has got them out of the police station and the investigation continues, as they say. I really enjoy Perry Mason stories. I like the way in which Erle Stanley Gardner weaves the story in such a way that the reader believes that all is almost lost. Then Mason, with his trusty employees Della Street and the Investigator Paul Drake, come up with the final clue almost at the last minute and their case is won. I especially enjoyed the film adaptations with Raymond Burr as Perry Mason.
