#19 is an erotic thriller written by Randi Tetlow.

Miranda "Randi" Tetlow is a Teenage Recovery Specialist: her job is to seek out and return teenage runaways to their families—if said families seem to be any better than what she can offer them, at least. She and her partner, Detective Jesse Grové, are currently working on the case of Marissa Sue Edgington, a 17-year-old runaway caught up in a vicious cycle of addiction and prostitution on the streets of Los Angeles. Eva Harmon, a freelance rescuer also looking for Marissa for her very own reasons, doesn't make the situation any easier. And we haven't even talked about what goes on behind Randi's closed doors when she and Jesse put on their "play clothes" and get down to some delicious mistress-slave action yet…

When I decided to pick this novel up, I had a vague idea of what it's going to be like based on its main themes. Then I started reading and had to realize how far from the truth I was. Sure, the story was dark and heavy, devastating even, but most of all, it was unexpected. Chapter after chapter, I read about events and situations I did not see coming at all. This ability to surprise was by far my favorite aspect of the book.

Another aspect I admired was how the author blurred the lines between the "good guys" and the "bad guys"—in the end, they were all simply human. Not one character was one-dimensional and, to emphasize this, the author provided extremely detailed "character profiles" at the end of the book. She included their physical description, their brief life story, and even their home address.

I also enjoyed the fairly heavy and kinky erotic content of the book. It was clear that the author is either part of the BDSM community or at least very interested in it. Her description of Randi and Jesse's relationship came across as realistic and, despite the abusive elements, caring, and very deep. I do realize, though, that this type of content may be repulsive to some readers, so I would advise anyone wary of explicit erotica to avoid this book.

In all honesty, I did not find anything to dislike about this novel. I did count more than ten typographical errors in the text, which forces me to take away a star from its final rating. However, I have to emphasize that they did not bother my overall reading experience.

All in all, I rate #19 3 out of 4 stars. I believe anyone who's drawn to entertaining erotic thrillers will enjoy it. However, due to its explicit nature and language, it might be offensive to sensitive or deeply religious readers, and it is definitely not suitable for children.

I love characters that are not "perfect," but who are flawed. I don't mind a little sex in books, but I prefer to have it be a minor part of the story. In fact, while reading, I prefer the psychological aspect of romance instead of the physical. Therefore, I'm not sure about this book. Thanks for your well-written review!

Yes, #19 is pretty heavy on physical descriptions and though the erotic scenes are always organic parts of the plot, I can totally understand if they're too much for some. Thank you so much for your comment!

BDSM is not my thing, but the thriller part seems a page-turner with an intense storyline. Thank you for your great review!

The title and book cover are quite unique. Even though I love thrill, I'll pass this because of BDSM. Thanks for the wonderful review.
