Review by Vingardsebba -- Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren
After the massive fire at College Inn, nothing became the same again, at least not for Benjamin Poe. While waiting for his death sentence, Benjamin begins to retell for his lawyer his own version of what really happened to his son. With an unstable relationship with his wife and a shaky one with his son, Gabriel, things got much worse after the fire. Benjamin is suspecting that Gabriel has something to do with it. At the same instant, a green-eyed stranger suddenly turns up from nowhere. The green-eyed stranger is called Crighton. What Benjamin doesn’t know is that Crighton represents a manipulative, soul catching demon, who has a mission. A mission to collect the soul of Benjamin’s son. Benjamin tries to protect Gabriel to whatever cost but gets fooled by Crighton and ends up killing his own son.
Crighton is seen as the devil himself by the town people. When it turns out that he is just operating for the devil as his number one soul catcher. After his mission with Benjamin Poe, Crighton gets sent to capture another soul but this one is way more special. What does turned out to be a successful mission, became soon a nightmare. Crighton gets abducted by an organisation who experiments on supernatural creatures. He also gets to share a cell with his worst enemy, an angel. Things soon turn out to be not quite what he expected them to be.
When I started reading this book I was a little bit unsure if I was going to like it. Demons and supernaturals usually don't represent my favourite type of genre, but I thought the plot sounded interesting so I gave it a chance and wow. Once I had started, I couldn't put it down. This book maintained several elements that I often want to find in a good book. The fact that it starts with a crime/mystery theme was promising for getting me interested in the plot. Then the whole love drama between Crighton and the angel starts it made my heart beat for this book. I adore relationships who start with hate then turns into love and this book got plenty of that.
I found it impossible to spot anything that I disliked about this book, which is an excellent grade. One thing that could have caused the book to be a slight bit worse would have been the grammar. Therefore, it feels good to say that I couldn’t find a single grammar or spelling mistake. The book was extremely well written, with a familiar language and a good rhythm.
Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren is a great book for those who are into the supernatural. However, if you don't enjoy supernatural, that's fine because this book gains a little bit of everything. It has a captivating love story between an angel and a demon. It contains a revolution and family drama. For everyone who loves the combination of mystery, drama and romance, this is the perfect book.
I think when you turn the last page of a book and it feels like you’ve just lost a great friend, that’s the proof that it’s a good book. That was the exact feeling I got when finishing this book and that's why I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
