Review by Edlourvargas03 -- Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren
Critovich Daemonium, otherwise known as Crighton, arrives in the small town of Lochton, in search of an evil soul. He meets Benjamin Poe, a devoted husband and father, and a brave firefighter. He tricks Poe into committing a crime, so he could claim the soul he was sent to retrieve. Crighton continued with his wicked duties even after Poe’s execution, but was captured during a mission by a group of scientists known as the Sovereign Sector. He was locked up with Ariel, the angel he was sent to capture for the King of Hell. At first, he was convinced that Ariel is the perfect trophy to take back to Hell, but as a strong attraction emerges between them, he questioned himself and his true nature. From Lucifer’s top soul seeker, Crighton became the number one target for his revenge. With dark secrets hidden for millenia and now unraveled, Crighton’s loyalty is put to the test. Will he fight for his freedom in order to love and be loved or will he hand Ariel over to his master?
Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren is a paranormal love story revolving around the budding romance of Crighton and Ariel. This book really had me gripped and glued to the pages. It got me anticipating about what was about to come next. There were so many unexpected twists and turns that it left me breathless for a few seconds because of the anticipation.
To start off, I love the character portrayal. The characters had a life to them and color. The emotions attached to these characters were spot on! At one point, I got teary-eyed when Crighton finally declared his love for Ariel and had accepted the fact that he was head over heels for an angel, the last being he expected to fall for. It moved me and it felt nice to feel such raw emotions from a fictional character. But that’s not the only scene that could make you feel what the author wants to convey to us as her audience. There is so much more to discover in this book.
Another thing I want to add is that, I really love the introduction. Narrating the story in the form of a flashback is a good way of capturing your readers’ attention. Well, it caught mine. The downside was that as you progress into the book, some of the scenes don’t make sense which gives you the impression that the book was rushed. The events that took place towards the end of the book was not at all planned, as compared to the beginning. It was kind of cluttered for me and it gave me a hard time trying to understand what was happening.
I love the idea of this story. The idea that two very different beings could find love in each other despite their origin, is a plus for me. Also, despite the fact that they are supposed to be at war with each other, they still made a choice to love and protect one another.
It tells us that love knows no boundaries. We come from different walks of life, but in some way or the other, we will experience love in all different forms. It doesn’t have to be with a lover. It could be with a friend, your family, your neighbor, even a stranger. I don’t mean this in a malicious way. We forget that we are capable of loving and giving love. We can find love in us, just like how Crighton found it in him.
I recommend this book to audiences who are interested in supernatural, romance, thriller and suspense. This book also contains a lot of bloody scenes. So I would suggest, if you’re not into that, do refrain from reading. That aside, this a good book and so I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
