Review by tafta -- Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren
In Soul Seeker by Kaylin Mcfarren, Benjamin Poe is a firefighter who finds himself on the death roll for killing his own son Gabriel. Strange events have led him into that situation involving a demon soul-seeker who was after his son for being a murderer and a serial arsonist. In an attempt to protect his son from being taken by the ruthless demon, Crighton, Poe is tricked into shooting his own son. To avoid being executed and his soul taken by Crighton, Poe decides to commit suicide but still finds his soul placed in the pits of hell.
Victorious Crighton, a top-ranking and ruthless soul-seeker, is sent on assignment to collect the souls of angels by Lucifer. He falls into a set-up by a human organization called Sovereign Sector. He and the angel Ariel are placed in the same holding facility. In that brief period of imprisonment which they managed to break out of, their souls connected. They were set to fight the many odds that were against their connection including the wrath of Lucifer even as they were discovering the power of the love that was growing between them.
Kaylin Mcfarren’s Soul Seeker is divided into two parts. The first part is mainly events on the earth where soul seeking was taking place. It shows the ruthlessness of Crighton the demon and how he thoroughly enjoyed his work as a demon. The book develops into part two where the author reveals the underworld and the forbidden relationship between Ariel and Crighton. The author has quite an imagination, getting the reader to root for a relationship between an angel and a demon, the purest being to the worst being known. Seeing the love conquers all statement fulfilled. Crighton softens up, develops manners, and becomes considerate. It is a very large dose of romance for romance lovers.
The book alludes to a number of things that originate from the Christian bible. The whole concept of Angels and demons, Lucifer, and hell is generally known as biblical. That being the case, the fictitious story charts its own course far from biblical teachings that are generally known. The author encourages reading it with an open mind, I would second her on that.
The book Soul Seeker is laden with suspense. It causes a build-up in anticipation of what happens next which causes the book to have a fast pace for the reader. I could not put it down especially when I got to reading part two. What I liked most about the book was the romance that is not tainted by heavy erotica. I did not dislike anything about the book. As a fictitious story, I think it was well written. I did not notice typos as I read the book. I will therefore rate the book 4 stars out of 4 stars . My recommendation is that children should not read the book because the underworld experiences are scary and reading about killings and eating of souls is not ideal for young minds.
