Without Redemption by David Griffith is a thrilling game of Cat and Mouse between Lonnie Bowers and El Chapo’s newest recruit; the tracker. As most cowboys are, Lonnie is hurt; but in the most unexpected way and left to think of a way to continue to provide for his family. When opportunity arises, he questions it, but knows the benefits it could mean for his wife Clarissa as well as bonding time with his son Conor. When the simple job takes a turn for the absolute worst Lonnie has to take his family into the Costa Rican jungle and survive until they reach trustworthy help. A battle between Clarissa’s faith and Lonnie’s muscle memory creates unforeseen problems he never thought possible, all while toting a baby along. Fatherly and husbandly responsibilities mixed with fear, hope and adrenaline keep Lonnie moving when it seemed easier to give up.

I enjoyed the fast-paced writing style. It easily captured my attention and kept it until whatever problem the character faced was solved. I enjoyed the background of each character and how they were led to their most important meeting. Even the trackers childhood history was captivating, it almost made me feel sorry for how he’d gotten into business with The Cartel. I sympathized with Clarissa as she cared for her sweet baby through the strange jungle and her fear of losing her husband while they endured what seemed as certain death.

I didn’t like that there was minimal physical descriptions of the characters. Other than a few features of hair color and high cheekbones nothing else was provided. Clarissa’s bickering of moral values pushed onto Lonnie was a little annoying at times. But provided good substance for the climax.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was captivating and full of obstacles that I couldn’t guess the ending for. His drive to get his family to safety and guessing what the outcome would be for Clarissa and the baby kept me engaged. Lonnie’s dedication switched from his mission for his job to simply his family and fight for them to live. Without Redemption is exceptionally well edited and a great thrilling read.

I would recommend Without Redemption for adolescents to adults who enjoy fact and fiction combined. It has thrills but also a devotion to family; with a little faith mixed in. The trackers allegiance to the Cartel shows the lawlessness of the rural countries they inhabit. At times where I was nervous to keep reading, David Griffith would throw a twist in and keep me enthralled in what was to come next.
