It all started when Benjamin Poe was arrested for murdering his son. Yet, he claims it was unintentional. People began to wonder how shooting your son thrice was an accident. Was there more to the story? What was he hiding? In the paranormal world lies Crighton, a demon, who works for the king of hell, Lucifer. His job is to bring in human souls who are stained with evil for Lucifer to eat. His latest mission involving the capture of an angel led him to a mind-blowing revelation and a romantic journey with whom he never would have considered.

Soul Seeker explores the paranormal world with a dash of romance. The fast pace of the book made it more exciting. It also had a lot of twists and turns, which was thrilling to read. McFarren wrote in the third person. While readers have the 'all-seeing eye' of an audience, they will not be able to feel each of the characters' plights. Hence, making the book plot-driven. Also, following Benjamin's thoughts from his point of view during his trial would have been nice. Did he feel terrible for an act he was innocent? Or was he ever innocent? Nevertheless, I had a great time while reading.

Benjamin Poe's entire life was thought-provoking; a family man with a marriage on the verge of breaking and a son who has been distant lately. He was not a complex character, but it was hard to tell his real feelings about his son. I also liked that he was the backstory to introduce Crighton. It created a smooth flow before the action, thrill and excitement that is in store for readers. Crighton was an interesting character, both in his features and personality. He was tough, relentless, and devoted to his lord, Lucifer. He became a piece of work because of the numerous abuse he faced. Or was it how demons are wired? His soft spot for his mother made his character realistic. Who knew demons could have feelings? I half-expected Lucifer to have a great deal of humour and spite for everyone. He was, however, just full of spite. It was a bit boring for his character — I did not enjoy or anticipate his occurrence. It's also not far-fetched that he is abusive, both physically and verbally.

I enjoyed the suspense the book carried. I finished the book in a sitting because I was very excited to find out what was next, which is why Soul Seeker deserves 4 out of 4 stars. My imagination went wild while turning the pages. I can not give it a lower rating because the thrill, fast-pace, and plot were intriguing. I liked the storyline, characters, and humour used in the book; there was nothing I disliked. Additionally, the author had a seamless way of describing the characters. I was able to imagine vividly. For example, “His eyes were glowing like green sapphires. Like a Harry Potter snake. I’ve never seen anything like that before!”

This book is suitable for adults who enjoy thriller and paranormal fiction. There were erotic scenes, one of which had an attempted rape situation and lots of profanities were used. Hence, I do not recommend to adults who mind profanities and instances regarding rape or abuse. I found just two non-distracting errors. Regardless, the book was edited professionally.
