Look for novels by Tess Gerritsen or Laura Griffin.

There's also a wonderful website called Stop, You're Killing Me! that lists all sorts of mysteries and crime fiction by author and/or by main character, and has lists of authors by type of mystery they write - I get all sorts of wonderful ideas from them!

The Alienist by Caleb Carr

Devil in the White City by Erik Larson (this one is actually non-fiction, which for me makes it more interesting)

Books written by J.D.Robb.

The stories skirt around a female homicide detective trying to catch serial killers. It has a touch of romance in a way that her love interest helps her in the same (most of the times unofficially and against her say :p ). Also the stories have high-tech gadgets involved.

My own novel "Blood Storm" (by Sam Waas) features a serial killer as part of the overall mystery story, told first person by a private detective working in modern day Houston. You can find the book on Amazon.

ps-- I think it's okay to mention my own book and I'm not trying to break forum rules. If I do so, it's accidental and I have no problems if this post is deleted by the folks in charge.
